After months of disruption that affected learning and jeopardized the futures of many students, Moi University held its 46th graduation ceremony on Thursday, December 19. During the event, Prof. Dankit Nassiuma was formally installed as the new Chancellor.
In his speech following the installation, Prof. Nassiuma expressed gratitude for the appointment, acknowledging the honor and trust bestowed upon him by the government of Kenya.
“I am deeply honored to be appointed as the Chancellor of Moi University. It is a significant responsibility, and I recognize the trust placed in me by the government,” said Prof. Nassiuma.

The newly installed Chancellor pledged his commitment to working closely with various stakeholders, including the government, faculty, staff, students, and the community, to uphold the university’s reputation and foster an inclusive learning environment.
“As your Chancellor, I am committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to not only maintain our position as one of the leading universities in Kenya but also to create a conducive learning environment that equips our students for a successful future,” he added.
Prof. Nassiuma succeeds Professor Miriam Khamadi, who was installed as Chancellor on September 13, 2024.
Career Background
Prof. Nassiuma has a distinguished career in academia and research. He served as the Vice Chancellor and CEO of Africa International University from July 2013. Prior to this, from 2007 to 2012, he was the Vice Chancellor at Kabarak University, where he played a key role in the university’s operations and academic development.
His career also includes extensive work as a Research and Statistics consultant for various organizations, accumulating nearly four decades of experience in research training, statistical design and analysis, socio-economic studies, and agricultural research.
Between September 2012 and June 2013, Prof. Nassiuma was the Director of the Institute for the Study of African Realities at Africa International University. He also served as Project Manager for the Kenya Integrated Household Budget Survey (KIHBS) from 2004 to 2007, a vital initiative for collecting and analyzing household-level economic data to inform national policy.
Prof. Nassiuma holds both a PhD and a Master’s degree in Statistics from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi.
With his extensive academic and professional background, Prof. Nassiuma is a highly regarded expert in the fields of academia and research.
