The Ministry of Education has confirmed the release date for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba will announce the results today, Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. from Mitihani House in Nairobi.
In a statement issued earlier, the Ministry said, “Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba will today, 9th January 2025, release the KCSE 2024 Examination results at Mitihani House, South C, Nairobi, at 10 a.m.”
KCSE 2024 Overview
The KCSE exams, which officially concluded on November 22, 2024, saw 965,501 candidates registered to sit for the national tests, as reported by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). Marking commenced shortly after the exams ended, and the Ministry confirmed the process was finalized by the end of December 2024.
Earlier on December 11, CS Ogamba announced that the results would be released in January 2025 but did not specify an exact date until now. Speaking at the time, he remarked:
“We should be able to get the results in January. Right now, we are ongoing with the marking; it is in process, and once they are ready, we will release them. I won’t be able to give a particular date because we are in the process of doing marking, so you’ll get the results.”
KNEC Responds to Grading and Marking Concerns
In response to circulating online reports, KNEC dismissed claims of a new grading system for the KCSE 2024 exams. The council clarified that the grading process remains unchanged, countering rumors suggesting otherwise.
Additionally, KNEC CEO David Njengere addressed allegations that some students had paid to alter their marks. He termed such claims as fraudulent and reiterated that the marking process is strictly confidential.
“Marking of exams is a confidential process, and KNEC may not disclose the identities of the examiners involved. KNEC undertakes due diligence in inviting examiners to ensure the reliability and credibility of the process,” Njengere stated.
KNEC also denied accusations that examiners from schools suspected of exam malpractice were excluded from the marking process.

Issuance of Maisha Cards to KCSE Candidates
As part of the government’s commitment to ease access to higher education, the State Department for Citizen Services had earlier directed the issuance of new-generation National Identity Cards, known as Maisha Cards, to all KCSE candidates who turned 18.
Principal Secretary for Citizen Services Julius Bitok explained that the initiative would facilitate smoother access to university education, Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) applications, and scholarships.
“We have mobilized our registration officers across the country to issue Maisha Cards to eligible candidates to enable those who qualify to join local or international universities, apply for HELB, scholarships, and other post-high school pursuits,” PS Bitok stated.
This exercise was made possible after the High Court lifted orders in December 2023 that had halted the issuance of new ID cards, allowing the Ministry of Interior to accelerate the rollout of Maisha Cards.
