Kenya’s Ministry of Education has announced a series of county-based dialogues aimed at enhancing education quality and learning outcomes under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system. These dialogues, set to take place from March 9 to March 15, 2025, will bring together education stakeholders from all 47 counties. The initiative follows a national launch scheduled for March 7, 2025, in Machakos.
The primary objective of these dialogues is to foster discussions on the CBE journey, covering its progress, achievements, and opportunities for improvement. The sessions will be facilitated by teams comprising officials from the Ministry of Education (MOE), the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Key objectives of the county-based dialogues include updating stakeholders on the current status of CBE implementation, providing a platform for public participation in the validation of Senior School guidelines, appraising stakeholders on teacher recruitment and capacity building, and collecting feedback on the CBE system’s implementation.
Expected outcomes from these discussions include increased awareness among stakeholders about the current state and future of CBE, validated Senior School guidelines through public participation, strengthened collaboration among education stakeholders, and valuable feedback to inform the ongoing implementation of CBE.
By engaging a wide array of participants across all counties, the Ministry of Education aims to ensure a more inclusive, transparent, and effective rollout of the Competency-Based Education system in Kenya.
