Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has hit back at Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for criticising the proposed 2025/2026 national budget, urging him to be patient and allow the process to unfold.
Mbadi, while speaking during a fundraiser at Dede Primary School in Awendo Sub-county, said he would use the opportunity to show legislators what a fair and equitable budget looks like.
He accused Nyoro, a former chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, of presiding over unequal resource distribution during his tenure.
“He mentioned that there was no allocation for the promotion of coffee farming. But when he was the chairman of the budget and appropriations committee, the budget allocated to coffee was Ksh.3 billion… this financial year, we have Ksh.4 billion. If you have not looked at the budget, please look at it keenly,” Mbadi fired at Nyoro.
The CS added that the current budget seeks to benefit all regions equally, noting that even historically marginalised areas will see improved infrastructure.
“A constituency like Daadab is getting the first tarmac road since independence. Yet when the same gentleman was the budget chair for two years, he was taking Ksh.6 billion to his constituency and Murang’a county,” Mbadi stated.
He urged Nyoro to study the proposed estimates carefully before making any conclusions, maintaining that the Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to fairness and inclusive development.
The event was also attended by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko, Awendo MP Walter Owino, and Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo, who reaffirmed their support for President William Ruto.
The leaders praised ongoing development projects in the Nyanza region, noting that various counties were now witnessing tangible transformation under the current administration.
