Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua has announced her intention to vie for the presidency in the 2027 General Election, ruling out the possibility of deputizing any candidate.

Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Friday, January 10, Karua affirmed her readiness to challenge President William Ruto’s administration and expressed confidence in her ability to secure the country’s top seat.

“I will not be a deputy to anybody again. At the right time, I will ask for your votes for the presidency,” Karua declared.

Karua previously contested for the presidency in the 2013 elections, finishing 6th in a race won by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. In 2017, she sought the Kirinyaga Governor’s seat but lost to Anne Waiguru. In 2022, she served as the running mate for Azimio la Umoja candidate Raila Odinga, with their ticket losing to the Ruto-Gachagua duo.

Narc Kenya Rebrands Ahead of 2027 Elections

As Karua makes her intentions clear, the Narc Kenya Party is undergoing significant changes in preparation for the 2027 polls.

According to a Gazette Notice dated December 27, 2024, the party will rebrand as the People’s Liberation Party (PLP). The rebranding involves a shift in the party’s theme colors from luminous red and white lilac to white and purple.

The party’s iconic rose flower symbol will be replaced with a purple flower, while the slogan will change from “One Kenya, One Nation, One People” to “Unite, Liberate” to reflect its new direction.

The move to rebrand is seen as part of the party’s strategy to appeal to a broader electorate and strengthen its position ahead of the next general election.

Karua’s declaration sets the stage for a competitive race, with political realignments expected to shape the 2027 presidential contest.
