Fans are eagerly anticipating a thrilling showdown at the 2025 London Marathon on Sunday, April 27, 2025, as two legends, Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele, go head-to-head.

Ethiopian great Kenenisa Bekele, the third-fastest marathoner in history with a personal best of 2:01:41 set in Berlin in 2019, was recently added to the elite list. Bekele finished as the runner-up behind Alexander Mutiso in last year’s London Marathon.

Joining Kipchoge and Bekele are several other top contenders, including world half marathon champion Sabastian Sawe, who ran 2:02:05 in Valencia last month on his marathon debut, Berlin Marathon champion Milkesa Mengesha, and 2024 Tokyo Marathon runner-up Timothy Kiplagat.

Other notable participants include New York City Marathon champion Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands, Olympic fourth-place finisher Emile Cairess of Great Britain, German record-holder Amanal Petros, Norway’s Sondre Moen, Australian record-holder Andrew Buchanan, Italy’s European half marathon champion Yeman Crippa, and Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee.

Eliud Kipchoge, a four-time London Marathon winner with victories in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019, will be making his return to the event for the first time since 2020. He holds the fastest personal best in the field with a time of 2:01:09, set in Berlin in 2022.
