A 29-year-old man was arrested in Huruma, Nairobi County, after being found carrying a bag containing human body parts on Tuesday, January 21.

The suspect, identified as John Kiama Wambua, was stopped and searched by police officers on patrol in the Kelly Towers area. During the search, Wambua confessed that the body parts belonged to his 19-year-old wife, Joy Fridah Munani, who was confirmed dead.

Further investigations led the police to the suspect’s house, where additional dismembered body parts were discovered hidden beneath a bed.

“Police in Huruma, Nairobi Area, on 21/01/2025, at about 0500hrs, while on patrol within Kelly Towers Area, arrested a male adult suspect carrying a bag on his back,” a police statement read.

“Upon conducting a search, a bag stashed with human body parts was found. The suspect later led officers to his house, where more body parts were recovered beneath a bed.”

Evidence Recovered at the Scene

At the suspect’s house, officers also found a blood-stained kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon, alongside female clothing suspected to belong to the deceased. The floor of the house was stained with blood, further pointing to the gruesome crime.

“Recovered from the crime scene were a blood-stained kitchen knife, female clothes, and additional dismembered body parts,” police confirmed.

Ongoing Investigations

The body parts were moved to the City Mortuary for postmortem analysis, while the suspect remains in police custody.

The motive for the murder is still under investigation. The case, referenced under CR 126/12/2025, is being handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Starehe branch.
