Former Kenyan rugby player-turned-food blogger Dennis Ombachi and entrepreneur Shiquo Hiistyles have been recognized as some of TikTok’s top stars of 2024.
In a list released by the platform, TikTok celebrated individuals who inspired and entertained users across East Africa throughout the year. The recognition highlighted influencers in categories like breaking barriers, boosting businesses, and shaping cultural movements.
TikTok’s Head of Content Operations for Sub-Saharan Africa, Boniswa Sidwaba, reaffirmed the platform’s commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive space for creators.
“Throughout 2024, TikTok continued to redefine how we discover, create, and connect through the shared language of video. From small businesses launching global brands to creators and artists leading cultural movements, TikTok has become a catalyst for economic growth, cultural trends, and social impact.
“We celebrate our Kenyan and East African community who have inspired and entertained us this year, as we remain dedicated to providing a space where everyone has a unique voice and an opportunity to shine,” Sidwaba remarked.
TikTok explained that the rankings were based on in-app and third-party insights analyzing the platform’s social, economic, and cultural impact from January to November 2024.
