KURA Announces Temporary Closure of Major Nairobi Roads This Sunday

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has disclosed that sections of major roads in Nairobi will be temporarily closed on Sunday, December 1.

In a notice on Wednesday, November 27,  KURA Director General Eng. Silas Kinoti noted that the temporary closure will be due to the World AIDS Day half marathon, which is scheduled to take place on the said date from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The race will kick off at Nyayo National Stadium and culminate at Museum Hill via Uhuru Highway and Kenyatta Avenue, among other roads.

“This is to notify motorists and the general public that sections of Nairobi Roads will be closed on Sunday 1st December 2024 from 6.00 am to 10.00 am for the 2024 World AIDS Day Half Marathon,” Kinoti stated.

According to the KURA Director General, the half marathon is intended to promote the health and well-being of men and boys.

Other roads which will experience temporary closure include Koinange Street, Muindi Mbingu Street, Wabera Street, Taifa Road, Harambee Avenue, Parliament Road, Haile Selassie Avenue and Lower and Upper Hill roads.

Marathon Road, Ragati Road, Hospital Road, Elgon Road, Matumbato Road, Masaba Road, Wakihuri Road, Bunyala Road, Commercial Street, Enterprise Road, Dar es Salaam Road, Dunga Road, Lusaka Road, and Aerodrome Road.

Kinoti asked motorists and members of the public to plan for the traffic disruption and use alternative routes.

“The public is requested to utilise alternative routes as guided by traffic and marshals and to plan for this disruption. We regret the inconvenience this event will cause to your normal routine,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, World AIDS Day is commemorated every first day of December and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), this year’s theme is “Take the rights path: My health, my right!”
