All government agencies will be required to carry out procurement through the newly launched e-Government Procurement (e-GP) portal starting July 1, 2025, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei has announced.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 14, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said Koskei had directed all public procurement entities to fully transition to the digital system by the set deadline.
The government says the shift to e-procurement is aimed at curbing corruption and saving public funds, estimating that over Ksh250 billion could be recovered by eliminating manual interference in the tendering process.
“Over Ksh250 billion will be saved through the elimination of graft through human agency and interference,” noted Mwaura in a statement.
The directive follows successful trials of the platform between March and May. Suppliers were earlier instructed to register on the e-GP system and provide key business details, including a valid company registration number, Kenya Revenue Authority PIN, official contact information, and compliance certificates.
The Treasury has stressed that only authorised individuals — such as business owners, directors, or partners — can manage supplier accounts on the platform. Legal documentation such as powers of attorney or board resolutions must be provided and certified by a Commissioner of Oaths, Advocate, or Company Secretary.
Suppliers must also ensure they have an active and regularly monitored business email and mobile number. For foreign suppliers, registration with the Business Registration Service (BRS) is mandatory before contracts can be awarded, although account setup can begin with a local representative.
To support the rollout, the government has been hosting weekly webinars since April 10 to guide suppliers through the registration process. These will continue until May 30.
