Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Evanson Kamuri has directed that all patients receive uninterrupted medical services, even in the event of downtime in electronic payment systems.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr. Kamuri acknowledged that the hospital had experienced a brief technical hitch, temporarily affecting the e-Citizen and Social Health Authority (SHA) platforms.

“The issue was promptly resolved, and normal operations resumed shortly afterward. At no time were patients denied services during this period,” he stated.

He further directed that all patients, particularly those undergoing dialysis and cancer treatment, continue receiving care without delay in case of any future system failures.

“Harmonisation of documentation will follow once systems are fully operational. System failure should not result in service deprivation for patients,” he added.

Dr. Kamuri assured the public that proactive measures are being taken to strengthen system reliability and prevent future disruptions.

“KNH remains committed to delivering seamless services, ensuring all operations continue even during unforeseen interruptions,” he stated.

On January 15, frustrated patients stormed the Ministry of Health Headquarters at Afya House, protesting SHA system failures that had affected services at KNH.

The incident, which occurred during a live press conference led by Health Cabinet Secretary, prompted an apology from Dr. Kamuri.

“KNH acknowledges a slight lapse in patient care and reassures the public that the SHA system is now fully operational and aligned with the KNH system. Normal operations have resumed, and patients are being attended to,” Dr. Kamuri stated at the time.

The technical hitch had disrupted patient clearance and administrative processes, causing delays in service delivery.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our patients and their families,” he added.

The hospital has since implemented measures to prevent similar occurrences, ensuring continuous care for all patients regardless of system failures.
