The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has issued a warning about a fraudulent Telegram channel promising improved results to parents and candidates of the 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).
In a statement released on Wednesday, January 8, 2024, a day after the KPSEA results were announced, KNEC dismissed the channel as a scam.
KNEC clarified that all schools that presented candidates for the assessment can access learner-specific reports through its Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.
“The 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) reports are ready and have been uploaded on the CBA portal, http://cba.knec.ac.ke. Schools that presented candidates for the assessment are advised to log into the portal and access the learner-specific reports. Congratulations to all the 2024 KPSEA candidates,” read part of the KNEC statement on Tuesday, January 7, 2024.
The KPSEA exams were administered to Grade 6 learners transitioning to Grade 7.
- Participation: A total of 1,303,913 Grade 6 pupils sat for the exams between October 28 and November 1, 2024, across 35,573 centres nationwide.
- Subjects: Learners were assessed in Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Creative Arts, and Social Studies.
Unlike the traditional ranking system, KPSEA results are part of the competency-based curriculum and will not rank students.
The KPSEA contributes 20% to the overall Junior School score.
- Breakdown:
- 20%: KPSEA results.
- 20%: School-based assessments in Grade 7.
- 60%: Summative evaluation at the end of Grade 9.
Grade 9 will mark the completion of Junior School, with learners transitioning to Senior School in 2026, where they can select career pathways.
KNEC has urged the public to disregard claims of result manipulation and rely solely on official communication channels for exam results and updates. Fake platforms and scams can mislead and exploit vulnerable families seeking better grades for their children.
Parents, schools, and students are encouraged to report suspicious activities to KNEC or relevant authorities to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
