The Kenyan government has announced a new initiative to support youth seeking employment abroad by covering essential pre-travel costs. The program, dubbed Kazi Majuu, will be facilitated through a partnership between the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (Youth Fund) and the Ministry of Labour.
In a meeting held this morning, Youth Fund CEO Josiah Moriasi and his team met with the Principal Secretary for Labour, Geoffrey Kaituko, to discuss the implementation of this initiative. The government recognizes that while thousands of job opportunities have been secured abroad, many qualified young Kenyans face financial difficulties in meeting travel expenses, preventing them from taking up these positions.
Under the ‘Kazi Majuu‘ initiative, the Youth Fund will provide migration loans of up to Ksh 300,000 to eligible youth. These funds will cover crucial pre-travel costs such as visa fees, airfare, and other necessary expenses, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the youth from accessing these life-changing job opportunities.
Speaking on the initiative, government representatives emphasized the importance of empowering young Kenyans by enabling them to work in foreign markets, thereby contributing to economic growth through remittances and skills acquisition.
The initiative is set to provide a significant boost to youth employment and economic mobility, aligning with the government’s broader commitment to job creation and workforce development. Prospective applicants will be required to meet specific eligibility criteria, details of which will be outlined by the Youth Fund in the coming weeks.
