Peter Muriithi, a football coach based in Kilifi County has been sentenced to life with an additional penalty of serving 110 years in prison.
In a statement dated Friday, November 8, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) revealed that the coach based in Malindi was given the sentence after being found guilty of defilement of minors.
According to the ODPP, evidence in court showed that the man took advantage of boys who were under his care.
“The suspect, namely Peter Muriithi was fined Ksh.90 million or in default serve an extra 110 years in prison for child pornography, being in possession of videos with obscene images of a minor aged 11 years, trafficking in persons for the purposes of exploiting them sexually contrary to Section 3(1) as read with Section 3(5) of the counter trafficking persons Act No. 8 of 2010.” ODPP said.
The authorities revealed to the court that the man would often lure young sports enthusiasts by offering financial aid to their families.
“Kilifi Principal Magistrate Ivy Wasike sentenced the coach after he was found guilty of defiling the minors who had been under his care as their coach,” read the statement in part.
“The prosecution detailed to the court how the accused, who managed a football team consisting of players under the age of 15, would recruit the minors and offer their families financial support as a way of buying their silence for his actions.”
Further, handed the man a 110-year sentence after it was established that he was in possession of pornographic materials involving minors.
