With the excitement building for the Group A fixture between Kenya and Angola at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024); regular, VIP and VVIP tickets for the Kenya vs. Angola Group A fixture set for Thursday, August 7, at 6pm at Kasarani Stadium are already sold out.
The match is part of Kenya’s Group A fixtures in the 8th CHAN tourney, hosted in Nairobi.
Kenya will also face Morocco and Zambia, with all their group matches slated for the 48,000-seater Kasarani Stadium.
Other Group A games will be played at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Sales for all CHAN tickets began on July 23 through the official portal at chan.mookh.com, with prices set at KES 200 (Regular), 500 (VIP), and 1,000 (VVIP) .
Tickets for Kenya’s second match of Harambe stars against Angola, were made available from noon on Tuesday, July 29, but sold out within hours; mirroring the rapid depletion of tickets seen during the Kenya vs DR Congo opener.
Interestingly, despite the sold‑out status, several seats at Kasarani stadium remained empty during Kenya’s opener, raising questions about ticket allocation, enforcement, and physical attendance versus digital record-keeping .
Wiper Party leader and KEFOFA patron Kalonzo Musyoka has weighed in on the public outcry after thousands of fans were locked out of the DRC game due to tickets selling out rapidly.
“This is unacceptable. Football belongs to the people. We cannot allow a few individuals to buy out entire ticket batches while the real fans are left outside,” said Kalonzo during a press conference at the CHAN Fan Zone in Nairobi.
“I will personally sponsor 500 fans for the next three Harambee Stars matches to ensure we have real supporters cheering on our boys,” he added.
However, Nicholas Musonye, Chair of the CHAN Local Organising Committee (LOC), dismissed the accusations of ticket hoarding and clarified CAF’s exclusive role in ticketing.
“Let’s stop spreading lies. No one from the government or private sector has bought tickets in bulk. Tickets are managed entirely by CAF through an online platform,” Musonye said.
“Kasarani Stadium may be rated at 60,000 seats, but its effective capacity is 48,000 due to security and media requirements. That’s why they run out fast.” He stated.
The CHAN touney officially kicked off on Saturday, July 26, at 8pm, at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Tanzania, with hosts Taifa Stars facing Burkina Faso’s Stallions in the tournament opener.
