Kenya Shines at Africa Military Games with Impressive Medal Haul

Kenya’s quest for glory at the All Africa Military Games in Abuja, Nigeria, on November 26, 2024, delivered remarkable results as the athletes continued to excel across multiple disciplines.

In the men’s 1500m, world cross country gold medalist Corporal Daniel Munguti clinched gold with a time of 3:39.12 in a fiercely contested race. His teammate, Spte Brian Kiptoo, finished fourth, clocking 3:47.91.

In the women’s 1500m, Spte Cynthia Chepng’eno, the 2024 Africa Cross Country champion, added a silver medal to her collection, bringing her medal tally at the games to two.

Paris Olympic semi-finalist Spte Private Wiseman Were showcased his dominance in the hurdles, claiming another gold medal for Team Kenya by powering through the barriers with finesse and speed.

Field events brought more historic achievements for Kenya. Lance Corporal Sarah Atieno delivered a stellar performance in the women’s shot put, securing gold with a throw of 14.63m. This marked a significant milestone for L/Cpl Atieno, who missed the 2024 All Africa Games qualifiers in Nairobi despite achieving a personal best of 14.88m. Her debut on the international stage has firmly established her as a trailblazer in KDF field events.

In golf, the KDF team wrapped up day two with a bronze medal in the overall competition. Captain Brian Tororei earned four points for the team in the stableford format, finishing second with 29 individual points. Ssgt Haron Wanyama also impressed, taking third place in the stroke play category with four gross points, adding two more points to Kenya’s tally. The Kenyan team’s third-place finish in the foursome stroke play added another two points, bringing their total to eight points.

South Africa claimed gold with 21 points, followed by Nigeria with 10 points. Kenya’s ladies’ golf team narrowly missed a podium finish, ending fourth, just one point shy of bronze.

The judo team continued Kenya’s winning streak with Cpl Marion Torotich securing gold in the 57kg category, while Cpl Brian Kiptoo bagged bronze in the 81kg category after an impressive display of skill and resilience.

As the athletics events entered their fifth day, Kenya’s medal tally stood at an impressive 16 gold, 11 silver, and 5 bronze medals, reflecting the team’s exceptional performance across various disciplines.
