Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi with H.E. Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Morocco received a great boost today from Kenya when the Prime Cabinet Secretary stressed the country’s support to Morocco’s Autonomy Plan on Sahara.
Mr Mudavadi who is set to open the new Embassy in Rabat has commended growing international consensus and momentum led by His Majesty the King in support of this plan.
“The Republic of Kenya considers Morocco’s autonomy Plan as the sole sustainable approach to resolving the Sahara issue and commends the growing international consensus and the momentum led by His Majesty the King in support of this initiative,” said PCS in a Joint Statement issued Monday in Rabat, following a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
In the statement, Kenya considers the autonomy plan as the sole sustainable approach to resolving the Sahara issue and intends to cooperate with like-minded States to foster its implementation.
In this context, “the Republic of Kenya welcomes the growing international consensus and the momentum led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favour of the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco as the only credible and realistic solution to the Sahara dispute,” the statement added.
The two senior officials emphasized the “exclusivity of the United Nations in the political process” and reaffirmed “their support for UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2756 (2024).”
The Kingdom of Morocco “appreciates Kenya’s recognition of Morocco’s continued cooperation with the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to advance the political process based on the relevant Security Council resolutions,” the Statement underlines.
Kenya and Morocco have enjoyed warm and renewed relations since President William Ruto took office.
This position by Kenya brings the East African nation in tandem with other nations such as France, Spain, the US and South Korea in a growing support for Morocco sovereignty and territorial integrity of her Southern provinces.
