The Republic of Kenya has officially recognized the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Kosovo, becoming the 118th country to do so. The decision was signed by President William Ruto and formally submitted to the Presidency.
The recognition was confirmed by Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani on Wednesday, who described it as a strong demonstration of Kenya’s support for Kosovo’s freedom, independence, and territorial integrity.
“Kenya’s recognition acknowledges the long struggle of the people of Kosovo for freedom and justice. On behalf of the institutions and citizens of Kosovo, I extend my sincere gratitude to President Ruto for this just and significant decision, as well as to the Kenyan citizens who supported this diplomatic step,” Osmani stated in a Facebook post.
She highlighted that over the past few years, she had engaged in key discussions with President Ruto, where Kosovo’s recognition was a priority topic.
“President Ruto has consistently assured the people of Kosovo that recognition would be granted swiftly, in line with international law and in recognition of our long-standing struggle,” she added.
Osmani also extended special appreciation to former Kosovo President and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Behgjet Pacolli for his dedication to the process.
“With this decision, Kosovo continues to strengthen its position in the international arena, aiming to deepen relations with Kenya across various sectors,” she noted. Osmani further announced that both nations are expected to establish diplomatic relations soon, paving the way for a strong and long-term partnership.
