Kenya Morans were forced to forfeit their 2025 AfroBasket qualifier against Tunisia after failing to arrive in Tripoli, Libya, on time due to logistical issues.
The Group E fixture was set for 4 PM, but the team was still in Kenya at kick-off.
In a statement, the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) cited “unforeseen logistical challenges, including a lack of connecting flights into Tripoli” as the reason for the forfeiture.
KBF thanked the Kenyan government and the Ministry of Sports for securing a chartered flight to ensure Morans arrive in Libya for their next game against Angola, scheduled for Saturday at 4 PM.
The team will wrap up their qualifiers against Guinea on Sunday at 1 PM. Despite the setback, KBF assured fans that the team remains determined to bounce back in the remaining fixtures.
Kenya currently sits third in Group E, tied on five points with Guinea, who secured a narrow 66-65 win over Angola. Tunisia leads the group with eight points after being awarded a 20-0 walkover victory against Kenya, while Angola holds second place with six points.
To qualify for the 2025 AfroBasket tournament in Angola this August, Morans must finish at least third in the group.
Kenya has previously participated in AfroBasket four times—in 1985, 1989, 1993 (as hosts), and 2021. The team is aiming to make history by qualifying for the tournament in consecutive editions for the first time.
