The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast mixed weather conditions across the country, warning of sustained rainfall, cooler nights, high daytime temperatures, and strong winds between Tuesday, June 10 and Monday, June 16, 2025.
In its latest outlook, the department indicated that five major regions will continue receiving rainfall—namely the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and parts of the Coast.
Above-average rainfall is expected in several areas, including the highlands west of the Rift Valley, Central and Southern Rift Valley, parts of Nyandarua in the eastern highlands, and sections of northwestern Kenya. Turkana and Samburu counties will also receive occasional rain, with cumulative totals likely to surpass the usual June averages.
In contrast, the southeastern lowlands are expected to remain largely dry and sunny, with only occasional cloudy conditions.
The weatherman also issued a cold weather advisory, particularly for highland areas near Mt Kilimanjaro, the Central Highlands, and the Central Rift Valley, where night temperatures may dip below 10°C. Residents—especially vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and the sick—have been urged to keep warm.
Meanwhile, coastal regions, northeastern, and northwestern Kenya will continue experiencing intense heat, with daytime temperatures expected to exceed 30°C. The high temperatures could worsen already dry conditions in arid and semi-arid areas, putting strain on water and livestock resources.
Strong winds exceeding 25 knots (approximately 12.86 metres per second) are forecast over the coastal strip, southeastern lowlands, northeastern and northwestern parts of the country. The department warned that the winds—mostly from the south to southeast—may disrupt marine operations and affect light structures. Coastal residents and maritime operators have been urged to remain cautious.
Parts of Nairobi, the Central Highlands, western Kenya, southeastern lowlands, and the Central Rift Valley will continue experiencing occasional cool and cloudy conditions with light rain, as the country gradually transitions into the cool season.
Kenya Met encouraged the public to remain alert by following daily weather updates and observing safety precautions as shifting regional climate systems continue to influence local conditions.
