The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a five-day weather forecast covering Saturday, February 8, to Wednesday, February 12, 2025. According to the forecast, most parts of the country will experience dry and sunny conditions, with isolated rainfall expected in select regions.
Dry Conditions and Strong Winds
The weatherman indicated that dry and sunny weather will dominate across the country, with rainfall mainly expected in southwestern Kenya, the central highlands, and areas near the Tanzania border.
“Most parts of the country will experience dry and sunny conditions, with rainfall chances mainly confined to southwestern Kenya, central highlands, and areas along the Tanzania border,” KMD stated.
At the same time, strong southeasterly winds of 25 knots (12.5 m/s) or higher are expected in the northwestern and northeastern regions, including Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties.

Cold Nights in Highlands
The forecast also warns of low nighttime temperatures, particularly in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, where minimum temperatures could drop below 8°C. Affected counties include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.
These areas will experience a mix of cloudy and sunny intervals, with cloudy mornings giving way to sunny breaks. Occasional showers are expected in high-ground areas, while nights will be partly cloudy with chances of light showers. Daytime temperatures will range between 27°C and 28°C.
Similarly, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will see nighttime temperatures drop below 9°C. Counties affected include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
These regions will experience sunny intervals during the day, with showers and thunderstorms expected over a few areas on the second and third days of the forecast. Dry conditions are likely to prevail towards the end of the period. Daytime temperatures will range between 30°C and 31°C.
Regions to Experience High Temperatures
Counties in the northwestern region, including Turkana and Samburu, will remain dry, with daytime temperatures soaring up to 38°C, while nighttime temperatures will range between 12°C and 13°C.
In the northeastern region, which includes Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, clear skies and sunny conditions will persist throughout the day, with partly cloudy nights. Daytime temperatures will reach 37°C to 38°C, while nighttime temperatures will range between 16°C and 17°C.
Coastal and Southeastern Lowlands Weather
The southeastern lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland parts of Tana River, will experience a mix of cloudy and sunny intervals. Mornings will transition from cloudy to sunny, with light rains possible on the last day of the forecast period.
Showers may occur in a few areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro and along the Tanzania border in the afternoons. Nights will be partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 12°C and 13°C, while daytime temperatures could reach up to 31°C.
Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal parts of Tana River, will see sunny intervals in the mornings, with the possibility of light showers over a few places on the last day of the forecast. Afternoons will remain mostly sunny, while nights will be partly cloudy. Maximum temperatures will range from 31°C to 32°C, with minimum temperatures between 20°C and 22°C.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged residents in affected regions to take necessary precautions, especially those in areas prone to strong winds and cold temperatures.
