Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has lashed out at critics of President William Ruto’s administration, urging them to reflect on the failures of the previous regime before pointing fingers at the current government.

Speaking during a function in Suna West on Sunday, Mbadi dismissed the growing criticism targeting Kenya Kwanza, arguing that the country is faring better now than it did under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“What is it that is going so badly now that didn’t happen during Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure?” he posed.

He faulted a section of leaders for what he termed as baseless accusations, insisting that President Ruto’s government is committed to delivering development and restoring economic stability.

Mbadi singled out the agriculture sector as one of the major beneficiaries of the current administration’s reforms.

“I’ve not heard complaints from key sectors like tea and coffee because they’ve received adequate funding. Even leaders from Central Kenya, whose regions have benefitted significantly, are still claiming the government is not working,” he said.

The CS further pointed out that counties have, for the first time, received full disbursements for the 2024/2025 financial year — a milestone he said was not achieved during the former administration.

“In the entire Uhuru presidency, we never released full disbursements to counties. This year we’ve released all allocations, including arrears carried over from the 2023/24 financial year,” he added.

Mbadi also revealed that constituencies across the country have received their full allocations under the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), noting this had not happened for nearly a decade.

He maintained that the disbursements — both to counties and constituencies — were a clear indication of Kenya Kwanza’s commitment to strengthening devolved governance and delivering services equitably.
