Kenya Airways (KQ) has issued a warning to customers about fraudsters impersonating its staff to solicit travel details.

In a statement released on January 22, KQ emphasized that it only contacts customers using official channels, specifically the phone number +254 711 024747 or WhatsApp via +254 705 474747, for flight schedule updates.

“Beware of individuals impersonating Kenya Airways customer care representatives requesting your travel details or itinerary,” the airline stated.

Fake Pilot Alert

The warning comes days after KQ exposed a fake pilot operating under the alias James Mwangi, who falsely claimed to be part of the airline’s team.

In a statement on January 16, the airline revealed that Mwangi had been distributing counterfeit business cards and fraudulently presenting himself as a KQ employee. To alert the public, KQ stamped one of the fake business cards with the word “FAKE” in bold.

The flagged business card included a fake fleet number, email, address, and phone numbers.

“Please be aware of a fake captain by the name James Mwangi issuing business cards and falsely claiming to be a Kenya Airways employee,” read part of the statement.

KQ clarified that Mwangi is not affiliated with the airline and urged the public to rely solely on its official channels and website for accurate information.

Kenya Airways reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity and safety of its operations. The airline encouraged anyone who encounters suspicious activity to report it immediately via +254 741 111 485 or through the official customer care email.

By remaining vigilant and utilizing the official contact points, customers can safeguard themselves against potential scams and fraud.
