Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kivaluka appointed continental association head

Date:

Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kivaluka has added another feather to his hat after being appointed the new Chairperson of the Africa Airlines Association (AFRAA) in Cairo, Egypt.

Mr Kavaluka’s appointment could not come at a better time when the Airline returned profits for the first time after nearly a decade.

It also comes at a time when the Airline is faced with stiff competition form mainly Ethiopian Airlines as well as RwandAir that has partnered with Qatar Airways to construct one of the largest and ultramodern Airport hub in Kigali.

Reports also show that Ethiopian Airlines is helping South Sudan to establish a national carrier for the first time since it separated from their Sudan Northern neighbours currently beleaguered with transigency and civil war.

Kilavuka succeeds João Carlos Pó Jorge, the outgoing Chairperson and CEO of LAM Mozambique, who has led AFRAA over the past two years.

He is set to lead the association for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal.

Kivaluka who led the budget Airline Jambojet to great profitability before joining KQ, will be responsible for guiding AFRAA’s strategic direction, representing the interests of its member airlines, and advocating for policies that promote the growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness of Africa’s aviation industry.

“It is a privilege to be entrusted with the role of AFRAA Chairperson and I am deeply appreciative of this opportunity and look forward to working alongside industry peers to amplify Africa’s voice in global aviation, build on greater collaboration, and drive strategic initiatives to enable Africa’s airlines to navigate current challenges and seize new opportunities,” he said as he accepted the appointment at the ancient Egyptian capital.
