Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba unveiled the results of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams on Thursday, January 9, 2024, highlighting impressive performances by national government schools.
Ogamba announced that 962,512 candidates sat for the exams, noting the government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education opportunities.
However, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) reported the nullification of 840 candidates’ results due to confirmed cases of exam malpractice, and 2,899 candidates’ results are pending further investigations, which are expected to conclude within 30 days.
National schools dominated the top grades in the 2024 KCSE exams. Of the total candidates who scored Grade A, national government schools contributed a significant 81.22%, along with a strong showing in Grade A- and B+ categories.
The breakdown of performance shows the national schools’ dominant role in the distribution of top grades:
- Grade A: 1,375 students from national schools, representing 81.22% of all Grade A scores.
- Grade A-: 4,611 students from national schools, accounting for 59.55% of all Grade A- scores.
- Grade B+: 6,947 students from national schools, making up 36.28% of all Grade B+ scores.
- Grade B: 8,185 students from national schools, contributing 18.98% of all Grade B scores.
- Grade B-: 7,672 students from national schools, representing 10.18% of all Grade B- scores.
- Grade C+: 5,498 students from national schools, comprising 5.53% of all Grade C+ scores.
- Grade C: 3,409 students from national schools, making up 3.05% of all Grade C scores.
- Grade C-: 1,714 students from national schools, accounting for 1.44% of all Grade C- scores.
- Grade D+: 743 students from national schools, representing 0.58% of all Grade D+ scores.
- Grade D: 447 students from national schools, making up 0.29% of all Grade D scores.
- Grade D-: 436 students from national schools, contributing 0.29% of all Grade D- scores.
- Grade E: 161 students from national schools, representing 0.33% of all Grade E scores.
