Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at rebranding his party as part of sweeping reforms ahead of forming a grand coalition.
Speaking during his birthday ceremony on Monday, the Azimio principal revealed that the changes would include renaming the party. He noted that a National Delegates Conference (NDC) would soon be convened to deliberate on key issues affecting the party.
According to the former Vice President, the conference, slated for next year, aims to help Wiper reposition itself as it prepares for coalition agreements with other like-minded parties.
“We are going to make sure we strengthen the party. Are you ready? You will be surprised by what I will announce within the year because I also want us to have a delegates conference,” Kalonzo said.
“We cannot continue to do the same thing the same way and expect different results. That is why we will have the conference to rebrand,” he added.
Kalonzo made the remarks during the 12th-anniversary celebrations of the Dini ya Roho Mafuta Pole ya Africa church in Kapenguria, West Pokot County, on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
The Wiper leader further revealed plans to mobilize the formation of a new coalition focused on national salvation, describing it as a key step in addressing the country’s challenges.
In his address, Kalonzo also took aim at President Ruto’s administration, accusing it of contravening the Constitution by illegally impeaching former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“By impeaching Gachagua, Ruto should have been the first. That is what we are saying. Gachagua is also a Kenyan entitled to civic justice, first is treatment per the law,” Kalonzo remarked.
He claimed that the regime was frustrating the former DP by allegedly blocking his appeal against impeachment.
Kalonzo’s sentiments come days after he hinted at forming a coalition with the former DP and other opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking after attending a burial ceremony in Embu on Thursday, December 19, Kalonzo stated that Gachagua was welcome to join the opposition alliance.
