President William Ruto has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), despite the cancellation of the procurement process between the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Adani.
Speaking on Tuesday, December 3, in Taita Taveta County, President Ruto assured Kenyans that a new framework would be established to ensure the project’s completion.
The Head of State dismissed critics of the airport project, accusing them of lacking understanding and commitment to national development.
“What gain do you make when you stop the building of an airport in your country? Those opposing have never even been to an airport. I want to assure you we will build a new airport. While we stopped Adani from undertaking the project due to legal restrictions barring us from engaging with entities involved in cases, it doesn’t mean the airport won’t be built.
“We will create a new framework and partner with people who believe in this country to construct the airport because that is the future we envision,” President Ruto stated.
The president also expressed confidence in his administration, asserting that detractors would not derail its vision for national progress.
“The naysayers, the saboteurs, and those who hate or doubt our country will not succeed. We are going to change this country because we believe in it, and we will achieve it because it is the right thing to do,” he added.
Following the cancellation of the Adani deal, President Ruto directed relevant government procurement offices to immediately seek alternative private entities interested in undertaking the project.
The president’s remarks underscore the administration’s resolve to enhance infrastructure and counter opposition to its development agenda.
