Low-cost airline Jambojet has announced the temporary suspension of its Nairobi-Goma flights, effective Monday, January 27, 2025.

In a statement, the airline attributed the decision to escalating safety concerns and the closure of Goma airspace.

“Jambojet regrets to inform you that we are temporarily halting our service between Nairobi and Goma (DRC) effective Monday, 27th January 2025 due to increasing safety concerns and closure of the airspace,” the airline noted.

Jambojet emphasized that passenger and staff safety remains its top priority, adding that it is closely monitoring developments in the region.

“We are closely monitoring these developments and will deliberate on the next steps together with key stakeholders both in Goma and Nairobi,” the statement added.

The airline assured affected passengers that its customer service team is reaching out to them via official communication channels.

The announcement coincided with President William Ruto’s call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Ruto, who also serves as the Chair of the East African Community (EAC), expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the region, exacerbated by ongoing military actions, including the closure of Goma airspace.

“Noting the worsening humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by ongoing military actions, including the closure of airspace in Goma, I call for the immediate and unconditional cessation of hostilities,” Ruto stated on Monday, January 27.

The suspension underscores the impact of the ongoing conflict in Eastern DRC on regional stability and connectivity.
