The much-anticipated President William Ruto’s one week tour to the Northeastern region proceeded as planned uninterrupted with the region reaping big in from the President’s visit. In the four days trip, the head of state traversed Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo counties where he presided over the official launching of key projects and allocated billions of funds to aid in opening the region which has been neglected for a long time.
Here is a breakdown of some of the notable projects initiated by the president and senior government officials who accompanied him.
Tuesday, February 4, 2025:
During his trip to Mandera County, the president Ruto, launched the Mandera Technical Training Institute (TTI) Jitume ICT Hub and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Mandera Campus. He also visited the ongoing Mandera Water Supply Project and stressed the importance of the government funding to support developmental measures in all regions of the country.
Wednesday, February 5, 2025:
The president toured the Wajir County, where he opened the Wajir Livestock Market, which is expected to have positive impacts on the economy of the region nursing pastoralists. He also opened the new unit of the Wajir County Referral Hospital to improve primary health care in the region.
On Thursday, February 6, 2025
President Ruto returned to Garissa County today to reopen the Garissa Passport Application Center. The center has been closed since 2014 due to security issues. The center will now cater for people from Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, and Kitui counties, who previously had to go to Nairobi for Passport Services. Furthermore, he distributed 3,000 title deeds within Garissa Township, which is now a total of 6,000 since the region’s independence. Additionally, the President took a tour of the ongoing 408-unit construction of the Garissa Affordable Housing Project. He also commissioned the Tana River Bridge and the associated feeder roads of Ukasi Garissa Modika road. His region aims this time was the development of the area with investment of about KSh 1.7 billion.
February 7, 2025
For the last day of his tour, President Ruto traveled to the Isiolo County where he made a stop at the new cargo section of the Isiolo International Airport to boost local trade and exports. He then went on to inaugurate the Isiolo Moyale Highway that will connect Kenya and Ethiopia and greatly help trade relations between the two nations along with the other transportation routes.
