Khalif Kairo Denies Criminal Allegations After Two Days in Police Custody

Renowned car dealer Khalif Kairo has addressed the public following his two-day detention at Capital Hill Police Station, an incident allegedly involving a Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer and a client.

In a statement on Monday, January 13, Kairo shed light on the circumstances surrounding his arrest, claiming that some influential individuals were using their connections in law enforcement to hinder him.

“I spent the past two days at Capital Hill Police Station as a guest of the state,” Kairo said. “This followed an altercation on Saturday at Nairobi Area Police Station with a DCI officer and a client, who attempted to humiliate me by secretly recording videos of the arrest and interrogation.”

Kairo expressed frustration over the challenges he’s been facing in recent weeks. He asserted that despite his efforts to resolve issues through civil means, some well-connected clients were exploiting the influence of certain DCI officers to make business operations difficult. He added that the issues at hand were commercial rather than criminal, stemming from the broader economic struggles faced by many business owners in Kenya.

“I am not a criminal, but one of many honest business owners navigating tough economic conditions,” he said.

Kairo, who is expected to be arraigned at Milimani Law Courts, thanked the public for their support during his ordeal.

“I will be presented in court shortly at Milimani Law Courts. I deeply appreciate the outpouring of support, prayers, and goodwill. May God bless you all. I remain strong and committed to resolving any pending matters. This is just a phase, and we will overcome it as a company,” Kairo concluded.
