Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has congratulated her predecessor, former Governor Lee Kinyanjui, following his nomination by President William Ruto as the Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry.

In a statement, Kihika expressed confidence in Kinyanjui’s ability to drive economic growth and attract investment to the nation.

“I am confident that you will utilize your networks and expertise to champion growth and investment in our nation. Wishing you every success as you take on this transformative role in service to our great country,” she said.

Kihika also highlighted the significance of the appointment, noting that it marked a milestone for Nakuru County and reflected President Ruto’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and unity within his administration.

“This is indeed a proud moment for Nakuru County. On behalf of the people of Nakuru, I thank H.E. President William Ruto for this appointment, which is a testament to his vision for a united and inclusive government,” she added.

Earlier that day, President Ruto announced a Cabinet reshuffle, which included Kinyanjui’s nomination as the Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade, and Industry.

This appointment marks Kinyanjui’s return to public service after previously serving as Nakuru’s governor from 2017 to 2022.

In the 2022 general elections, Kinyanjui, who ran on a Jubilee Party ticket, sought re-election but was defeated by Susan Kihika of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Kihika secured 440,707 votes against Kinyanjui’s 225,623, making her the first female governor of Nakuru County. Her victory was significant, as she won in 10 out of the 11 constituencies in the county, signaling strong support from the electorate.

Kinyanjui’s recent nomination is part of a broader Cabinet reshuffle by President Ruto, which also includes the appointment of former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as the Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, and former Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development.
