Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has pledged never to forget the patriotic sacrifices made by Kenyan security officers, even as he transitions from his role as Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and National Administration.
In his address, Kindiki said that over the last two years, nothing has given him a greater sense of fulfillment than the long days and humid nights spent with officers protecting the country.
“To our brave security officers who have paid the ultimate price, whether with their lives or in injury, I salute you and assure you that Kenya will never forget your courage and patriotism. May the souls of those who have fallen in the line of duty find eternal peace,” Kindiki said.
“As I relinquish the leadership of the Interior Ministry, I am proud to report that save for a few inevitable losses, Lamu and North Eastern Kenya are much safer and calmer today than the situation was during the last half of 2022,” Kindiki said.
He credited these achievements to the dedication of the ministry’s staff and security forces, taking full responsibility for any shortcomings during his tenure. “Any performance inadequacies during my tenure are on me because I know that the ministry’s staff and officers gave their best,” he stated.
“Each moment I had a chat or shared a meal or even took a selfie with security officers in the frontline of the war against terror, there was always a profound surge of pride in the knowledge that a dedicated and patriotic cohort of our security forces remain alert day and night to prevent terrorists and other dangerous criminals from accessing Kenya to cause harm to its people,” Kindiki added.
Kindiki formally began his new duties as Deputy President on Thursday, bringing to a close a chapter marked by commitment to improving national security.
