Troubled Bomet governor Prof Hillary Barchok hjas declared that he will contest for the Bomet county Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Barchok was arrested in the morning of 6th Thursday February 2025 by EACC detectives for alleged involvement in embezzlement of over Ksh 1.4 billion and later released on the same day as the commission continue to process the case.
Speaking shortly after his release on Thursday evening in Bomet county, the governor linked Senator Hillary Sigei to his troubles and declared war against the senator saying that he is ready to face him in t6he next elections.
According to the second term governor, the allegations of theft have been engineered by his rivals who he says they do not scare him, and he is ready to face them head on.
Governor Barchok’s terms as the Bomet county chief have been marred by several corruption scandals and his declaration to go for the County’s senatorial seat has ignited a hot political debate.
The former university lecturer cum politician rose to the county’s top seat in 2019 after the death of second Governor Joyce Laboso who was his boss. Despite his challenges, Barchok managed to get reelected in 2022 after trouncing former governor and South Rift political heavyweight Isaac Rutto.
It is now a matter of wait and see as the EACC continues to process Barchok’s biggest scandal and as he takes his battle with his political rivals to the next step.
