The High Court has thrown out an application by nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba seeking to prevent her removal from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, May 20, Justice Lawrence Mugambi dismissed the application on technical grounds, citing non-compliance with court procedures.
“It is apparent that the applicant has added new parties who are not in the original petition and without seeking the leave of this Court to amend the petition,” stated Justice Mugambi.
“The application is incompetent and is rejected. Previous directions are maintained,” he added.
Senator Orwoba was expelled from UDA on Monday, May 19, following allegations of disloyalty and contravention of the party’s core principles.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said the party’s Disciplinary Committee made the decision after an extensive review of the case.
“Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party’s Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Sen. Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party with immediate effect,” read part of a statement from Omar.
He added that the National Executive Committee (NEC) endorsed the decision during a meeting held on May 19, 2025.
“Further, during its meeting held on 19th May 2025, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s decision. Accordingly, Sen. Gloria Orwoba ceases to be a member of the UDA Party.”
Omar explained that with the expulsion, Orwoba had lost all the rights and responsibilities granted to UDA members.
“Consequently, she no longer enjoys any privileges accorded to party members nor is she authorized to represent or act on behalf of the Party in any capacity,” he added.
The party has since written to the Speaker of the Senate to initiate the formal process of removing her from office. Notifications have also been sent to the Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In readiness for the vacancy, UDA announced Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County, as its nominee to take up the position.
“In accordance with the Party’s Nomination Rules and based on the Party List submitted to the IEBC prior to the 2022 General Elections, the Party has nominated Mrs. Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from Kimilili Constituency, Bungoma County to fill the resulting vacancy,” the statement added.
