Heavy Rains Cause Severe Flooding in Nairobi, Leave Motorists Stranded

Date:

Many motorists in Nairobi are tonight struggling to find their way home after heavy rains caused severe flooding, rendering numerous roads impassable.

Images and videos shared online show vehicles stuck, with some nearly submerged in floodwaters.

“I’m stuck at Parklands and live along Thika Road. Double tragedy. It looks like I will spend the night in a bar taking soda),” lamented one motorist.

Another video from the Kilimani area, shared on X, revealed heavily flooded roads. A user cheekily suggested that the water should be diverted to State House.

Kenyans in different parts of the city shared their frustrations, with many attributing the situation to the poor drainage system.

Some recounted personal misfortunes.

Others took a jab at the perennial issue of riparian land development, with one asking, “Wale walikataa kutoka kwa riparian lands how’s it going?”

The ongoing flooding has reignited concerns about Nairobi’s drainage system and urban planning, with residents urging authorities to act swiftly to address the issue.
