Kenya’s Harambee Stars have been placed in Group A of the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup, where they will face Zanzibar Heroes, Kilimanjaro Stars, and Burkina Faso.
The national team’s campaign kicks off with an opening clash against Burkina Faso on January 4, 2025, in Zanzibar.
Interim head coach Francis Kimanzi has described the tournament as a critical platform for evaluating the team’s readiness for upcoming challenges.
“This tournament is a blessing for us. It gives us a chance to assess players and prepare for future competitions,” Kimanzi remarked before the team’s departure.
Kenya’s second group match will be against Kilimanjaro Stars on January 7, 2025, followed by their final group-stage fixture against Zanzibar Heroes on January 10, 2025.
The Harambee Stars’ traveling squad comprises 24 players, carefully selected based on recent performances and potential contributions.
The team has been training intensively at the Mpesa Foundation Academy, fine-tuning tactics and fostering cohesion ahead of the competition.
Kimanzi highlighted the importance of the Mapinduzi Cup as an opportunity for player evaluation and strategy adjustments as Kenya seeks to reestablish itself as a competitive force in football.
The group-stage matches will conclude with Kenya’s game against Zanzibar Heroes, after which the tournament will pause for a two-day break on January 11 and 12, 2025.
The finals, slated for January 13, 2025, will feature the top two teams battling it out for the championship.
