Harambee Stars have booked their place in the CHAN 2024 quarterfinals for the first time in history, progressing on the head-to-head rule after crucial victories over DR Congo and Morocco.
Kenya opened their campaign with a 1-0 win over DR Congo and later edged Morocco by the same scoreline in their third group match. The results have put them top of Group A with seven points and one game to spare.
On Sunday, Stars will take on Zambia, knowing that victory will confirm them as Group A winners and set up a quarterfinal clash at Kasarani, likely against Mauritania. A second-place finish would instead see them travel to Dar es Salaam to face Group B leaders Tanzania.
Under CHAN’s group stage format, ties on points are first separated by head-to-head results, followed by goal difference, total goals scored, and Fair Play points based on cards received. If teams are still level, the Organising Committee resorts to a drawing of lots.
For Kenya, the scenario is straightforward — win on Sunday and enjoy home advantage, or lose and face an away challenge in Tanzania.
