The Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Creative Economy, and Sports has announced plans to launch the first phase of the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) program.
In a statement dated Wednesday, December 11, Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen revealed that 100,000 youth with innovative business ideas would receive financial support to help establish their ventures.
The initiative, in collaboration with the World Bank, will provide selected participants with Ksh50,000 each as start-up capital. Ahead of the rollout, Murkomen held discussions with World Bank officials to finalize the implementation framework.
“Spearheaded by the Government of Kenya in partnership with the World Bank, this project signifies a substantial commitment to tackling youth unemployment and addressing skills mismatches,” part of the statement read.
“NYOTA is designed to equip Kenyan youth with essential skills and resources to secure meaningful employment and foster entrepreneurship. Key among its objectives is providing 100,000 youth with viable business ideas Ksh50,000 each to either launch or grow their ventures,” the Ministry explained.
The Ministry also noted that the program’s scope would expand in the future to benefit additional unemployed youth across the country.
