Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has launched an investigation into the fire that broke out at the Narok Bus Station on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, destroying property of unknown value.

In a statement, Governor Ntutu confirmed that the fire started in the afternoon but was quickly contained by the county firefighting team, preventing further destruction and ensuring the safety of park users.

“My attention has been drawn to the unfortunate fire incident reported this afternoon at the Narok Bus Park. Our fire engines responded swiftly and successfully contained the fire, preventing further damage to property and ensuring the safety of park users,” read part of the statement.

Governor Ntutu raised concerns over the possible defiance of safety directives issued during the commissioning of the bus park.

He noted that eateries operating within the station were prohibited from cooking on-site and were directed to sell only ready-made food. However, gas cylinders were found in some of the stalls that were razed by the fire.

“This incident raises important questions about the safety measures and precautions businesses operating within the bus park are taking to protect themselves and other park users,” Ntutu stated.

“When I commissioned the bus park, I issued a directive prohibiting eateries from preparing meals within the park. We advised that meals be prepared elsewhere and only brought to the stalls for sale.”

Governor Ntutu announced that a probe had been launched to determine the cause of the fire and investigate how gas cylinders ended up in the affected stalls. He urged residents to prioritize safety to avoid similar incidents in the future.

“We have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fire and to establish how the gas cylinders found their way into the bus park. Let us prioritize safety at all times to prevent avoidable disasters,” he added.

By the time of this publication, Governor Ntutu had not provided a comprehensive report on the extent of the damage or the losses incurred from the fire. The probe is expected to shed light on these issues and outline measures to enhance safety at the bus park.
