Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to an inclusive development agenda that transcends political, religious, and ethnic affiliations, saying the Broad-Based Government model is designed to unify the country while uplifting all citizens economically.
Speaking in Onger, Nyatike Constituency, during an economic empowerment engagement in Migori County, DP Kindiki emphasized strategic government interventions over the past two years targeting grassroots economic revitalization. “To turnaround the economic fortunes of the fisherfolk, fresh produce farmers, and small-scale traders, the Government has initiated capital grants and is constructing modern markets to boost their enterprises,” he said.
Migori County is a major beneficiary, with 26 fresh produce and fish markets currently under construction. Each market will include ICT hubs to provide digital job opportunities for the youth through e-commerce platforms.
DP Kindiki also highlighted the ongoing last-mile electricity connection projects, noting that 17,000 new households in Migori—including 3,000 in Nyatike—will benefit from connections valued at Ksh 1.6 billion, part of Kenya’s nationwide electrification agenda by 2030.
The Deputy President was joined by a host of national and local leaders including Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi, Governors Ochilo Ayacko (Migori) and Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed, among others. The event centered on supporting women and youth SACCOs as part of the government’s economic empowerment initiative.
