Nairobi City County’s Chief Officer of Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has issued a stern caution to young people about the dangers of living beyond their means, using businessman Khalif Kairo’s financial woes as a case study.
In a video circulating online, Mosiria took a lighthearted swipe at Kairo, whose troubles have deepened over undelivered vehicles linked to his company, Kai and Karo. He warned young men against falling into the trap of extravagant lifestyles, especially to impress their girlfriends, arguing that the pressure to showcase wealth has led many into financial ruin and even crime.
Reflecting on Kairo’s once-flamboyant lifestyle, Mosiria admitted that he was captivated by the businessman’s seemingly luxurious life, from first-class flights to expensive treats for his girlfriend. He joked about how, while Kairo flew on private jets, he himself could not even afford a premium ticket on the Nairobi-Mombasa route.
According to Mosiria, the obsession with luxury and public displays of wealth has driven many young men to make reckless financial decisions just to maintain an illusion of success. He expressed shock at Kairo’s current predicament, where he is now pleading for donations after being arrested for allegedly failing to deliver vehicles paid for by clients.
“The events humbling Kairo must have taught him a lesson on living within his means,” Mosiria remarked, emphasizing the value of financial discipline and hard work.
He cautioned against shortcuts to wealth, stating, “People work hard. You don’t just wake up and become rich overnight, you must work hard. It’s a process.”
Encouraging a culture of diligence, Mosiria urged young people to focus on genuine success rather than fleeting appearances. “Let’s inspire each other to work hard. Don’t spend money you haven’t worked for. Don’t chase overnight riches just to live a posh life while your family back home still struggles,” he advised.
Meanwhile, Kairo’s personal life has also taken a hit, as his girlfriend, former Miss World Kenya Wavinya Maria, has erased all traces of their relationship from her Instagram account, sparking speculation on social media. Wavinya, who boasts a massive following, has remained silent on Kairo’s legal troubles.
Kairo, once known for showering Wavinya with expensive gifts and extravagant trips, now finds himself isolated in the court of public opinion. His previous defense of her against allegations of ties to Chinese tycoon Mr. Wang now seems a distant memory as he battles his mounting legal troubles alone.
Troubled city car dealer Khalif Kairo has revealed that his account worth millions of shillings has been closed as his struggles continue to compound.
In a statement issued on Wednesday morning, Kairo announced that his WeFunder campaign account, which held over Ksh12.9 million (USD100,000), was closed the previous night.
Kairo attributed the closure to a series of ongoing legal challenges he is currently facing, with the most recent being a case at the High Court of Kenya, Milimani Division, in Nairobi.
”I am currently in Milimani Law Courts and will be presented for plea-taking shortly. Due to these legal issues, our WeFunder campaign account was shut down last night after crossing the USD 100,000 (Ksh12.9 million) mark,” Kairo shared.
