Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has emerged as the most searched local personality on Google in Kenya in 2024.
Data released by Google on Tuesday, December 10, placed Gachagua at the top of the local personalities category, followed by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano and Defence CS Soipan Tuya. Other notable names in the category include the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service Noordin Haji, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.
In the trending news category, the Social Health Authority (SHA) led the searches, followed by the Finance Bill 2024 and the U.S. elections 2024. Other notable topics included Gachagua’s impeachment, Haiti, Cyclone Hidaya, Starlink Kenya, Gen Z, SHIF, and the Ford Foundation.
In the trending lyrics category, the controversial song Anguka Nayo topped searches, followed by Kudade and Hit and Run by Shenseea.
Google also highlighted the most searched deaths in 2024, with notable names such as content creator Brian Chira, veteran journalist Rita Tinina, celebrated actor Charles Ouda, and marathon world record holder Kelvin Kiptum dominating the list.
