Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on his former boss, President William Ruto, to heed the voice of the people.
Speaking during a church service in Kigumo, Murang’a County, on Sunday, November 24, Gachagua claimed that disagreements over the controversial Adani Group deal were at the heart of his fallout with the President.
The former DP alleged that he had cautioned the President about the deals with the Indian firm, describing them as dubious and unpopular among Kenyans. However, he claimed that his advice was dismissed.
“The matter with Adani is what led to my fallout with the President. In the Cabinet, I was the only person who could tell him the truth. All the others were cowards. I told him the issue with Adani is shady and the people don’t want it. He hated me. It was said I’m opposing government projects,” Gachagua stated.
He urged the President to reflect on the biblical verse John 8:31 and to listen to the people of Kenya.
Gachagua also alleged that President Ruto’s decision to cancel the Adani deals was not motivated by personal conviction but by external factors, including legal issues faced by the Indian firm’s founder in the United States.
“Even after the President cancelled the deals, there was no need to clap for him because it did not come from his heart. He only responded after that suspect was indicted in the United States,” Gachagua claimed.

Last Thursday, President Ruto announced the cancellation of the Adani deals, citing integrity concerns. He noted that the decision was based on new credible information regarding the company.
“I have stated in the past, and I reiterate today, that in the face of undisputed evidence or credible information on corruption, I will not hesitate to take decisive action,” President Ruto remarked during the announcement.
