The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) has unveiled the official list of SACCOs licensed and authorized to operate in Kenya for the year 2025.
In its latest announcement, SASRA categorized SACCOs into three groups: those licensed for deposit-taking business, those authorized for non-deposit-taking business, and those whose authorization has expired.
Licensed Deposit-Taking SACCOs
A total of 178 SACCOs have been granted licenses to conduct deposit-taking business. These SACCOs met all regulatory requirements and are authorized to operate from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
Authorized Non-Deposit-Taking SACCOs
SASRA also approved 177 SACCOs to engage in non-deposit-taking activities. These SACCOs are similarly authorized to operate for the same period, provided they adhere to the specific regulations governing their business activities.
Expired Authorizations
Two SACCOs, listed in Schedule III, failed to apply for renewal of their authorization before the December 31, 2024 deadline. Consequently, their authorizations were automatically revoked, and they are now prohibited from conducting any regulated SACCO business effective January 1, 2025.
SASRA’s Reminder
SASRA emphasized that all licensed SACCOs are expected to comply with the regulatory framework to safeguard members’ interests and maintain public confidence in the SACCO sector.
