Ambassador Martin Kimani, Kenya’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has been named the new President and CEO of The Africa Center, a nonprofit organization based in New York.
In a statement released on Monday, January 27, 2025, The Africa Center described Amb. Kimani as a distinguished diplomat and an influential global public servant.
“We are honored to introduce to you the new President and CEO of The Africa Center, Ambassador Martin Kimani! Ambassador Kimani brings a distinguished career as one of Kenya’s most respected diplomats and global public servants,” the statement read.
During his acceptance speech, Kimani expressed his gratitude for the appointment, emphasizing the importance of elevating African narratives and celebrating the continent’s rich heritage.
“After over a dozen years in public service focusing on security, political mediation, and diplomacy, I am honored to take on this role at The Africa Center. The chance to build and shape a major New York institution is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that comes at a decisive moment to amplify Africa’s stories, opportunities, and global influence,” he stated.
Kimani pledged to position The Africa Center as a global hub for transformative ideas and partnerships, uniting Africa and its diaspora.
“Together, we will position The Africa Center as a hub for transformative ideas, partnerships, and action, bridging Africa and its global diaspora to elevate their standing and catalyze progress. Our work will honor Africa’s rich histories while boldly shaping the continent’s dynamic future,” he added.
The Africa Center is a nonprofit institution focused on reshaping global perceptions of contemporary Africa through the lenses of culture, policy, and business.
Ambassador Kimani served as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Head of Kenya’s Mission to the UN from 2021 to 2024, where he played a key role in advancing Kenya’s foreign policy agenda on the global stage.
