FKFPL top scorer Ryan Ogam set to miss remainder of the season after undergoing surgery

Date:

Tusker FC will have to navigate the rest of the season without their star striker Ryan Ogam, who has undergone surgery following a knee injury.

The club confirmed that Ogam, the current top scorer, sustained a meniscus tear during their 1-1 draw against Shabana on February 26, 2025. He was forced off at halftime due to discomfort in his knee, an issue that has now sidelined him indefinitely.

Taking to social media, Tusker expressed their support for the forward, wishing him a swift recovery.

“Wishing a quick recovery to our top scorer Ryan Wesley Ogam, who has undergone a minor procedure for a meniscus tear. Quick recovery, Rayo, we can’t wait to have you back!,” the club posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Major Setback for Tusker’s Title Aspirations

Ogam had been in outstanding form before his injury, netting 15 goals in the first leg of the season. However, his momentum slowed in the second leg, where he failed to score in four matches before being sidelined. Despite this, he still leads the league’s scoring charts.

His absence presents an opportunity for Kakamega Homeboyz’s Moses Shumah, who trails him by just two goals, to overtake him in the race for the Golden Boot.

For Tusker, Ogam’s injury is a significant setback as they now rely on young forward David Polepole to fill the gap.

Failed Transfer Moves Before Injury

The forward was at the center of a transfer tussle in January, with Algerian club USM Alger and Swedish side Ostersunds FK both attempting to secure his services. However, neither deal materialized, as Tusker refused to lower their valuation. USM Alger had tried to activate his release clause, reportedly worth USD 30,000 (approximately KSh 3.9 million), but negotiations fell through.

Hope for CHAN 2024 Participation

Despite the injury, Ogam remains hopeful of recovering in time for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which is scheduled for August 2025.
