President William Ruto has appointed former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General (Rtd) Robert Kibochi as the chairperson of the board of Mwai Kibaki Referral Hospital.
According to a gazette notice, Kibochi’s appointment is for a period of three years, effective November 22, 2024.
Kibochi, a retired Kenya Army general, served in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) for over 40 years. During his tenure, he held various leadership roles, eventually rising to become the 10th Chief of Defence Forces, a position he held from May 2020 to May 2023. He succeeded Gen. Samson Mwathethe, a naval officer, who had served as CDF from April 17, 2015, replacing Gen. Julius Karangi of the Kenya Air Force.
Also included in Friday’s appointments was former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo.

President Ruto named Gumbo the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Sugar Board for a three-year term, effective November 22, 2024.
Previously, Gumbo had been nominated by Ruto to serve as a Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Kenya Kwanza government under the Ministry of Roads and Transport, a position that did not materialize.
Additionally, former Kesses MP Swarup Mishra was appointed as the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Biovax Institute Limited. His three-year term also takes effect on November 22, 2024.
Mishra, a medical doctor-turned-politician, has a distinguished background in medicine and previously served as a lecturer at Moi University. He is a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology.
The President also made key appointments to Kenya’s Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Council. Those appointed include Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, alongside Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi (National Treasury), Andrew Karanja (Agriculture and Livestock Development), Aden Duale (Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry), and Salim Mvurya (Investment, Trade, and Industry).
Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) are trade and development frameworks negotiated between the European Union and African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries to enhance cooperation and economic growth.
