Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that he has resigned from his government position, labeling the claims as false and misleading.
The fake post alleged that Ogamba had resigned in protest over the government’s failure to address abduction cases across the country. It claimed he had submitted his resignation letter to President William Ruto.
According to the post, the CS had reportedly criticized the government for neglecting basic rights and human dignity. It went on to attribute remarks to Ogamba, claiming he had condemned abductions, disappearances, and killings, which, he allegedly said, had caused immense pain to families.
“With a heavy heart, but with a clear conscience, I stand before you today to announce my resignation as the Cabinet Secretary for Education,” the flagged post falsely quoted Ogamba.
“As a leader, I have a responsibility to stand for what is right and to advocate for the values that underpin our Constitution—justice, equality, and the protection of human rights. When the government I serve fails to uphold these values, I must take a stand,” the post read in part.
In response, Ogamba distanced himself from the statements and warned Kenyans against believing fake social media accounts impersonating him.
“Beware of a fake X account purporting to be the Cabinet Secretary for Education,” Ogamba clarified in a post.
The Education CS reiterated that he had not resigned and urged Kenyans to verify information before sharing it online.
Ogamba’s clarification came just hours after Head of Government Delivery Services Peter Mbae tendered his resignation, citing unresolved issues raised with Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
