EACC Teams Up with Police to Seal Corruption Loopholes in Kenya

Date:

In a renewed effort to combat corruption, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the National Police Service (NPS) have pledged to work together to eliminate systemic weaknesses that enable graft within the police force. The collaboration aims to strengthen integrity, accountability, and professionalism within the service.

The top leadership of both institutions, including EACC CEO Mr. Abdi Mohamud, EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde, and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, met to chart the way forward in addressing corruption vulnerabilities.

Speaking during the meeting on Tuesday 18th, EACC CEO Mr. Abdi Mohamud emphasized the need for deep structural reforms within the police force. “Corruption thrives where policies, procedures, and practices are weak or poorly enforced. Our partnership with NPS will focus on closing these loopholes to restore public trust in law enforcement,” he stated.

EACC Chairperson Dr. David Oginde underscored the critical role of leadership in fostering ethical policing. “Integrity must be at the core of policing. We are committed to working closely with the NPS to instill a culture of accountability at all levels of the service,” he said.

On his part, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja welcomed the collaboration, noting that corruption not only undermines the effectiveness of the police but also erodes public confidence. “This partnership with EACC is a crucial step towards rebuilding trust and ensuring that officers uphold the highest ethical standards,” he remarked.

The initiative will see EACC supporting the police in strengthening policies, streamlining procedures, and reinforcing accountability mechanisms to curb corruption. Key areas of focus include ethical training, policy reforms, and enhanced oversight measures.

The move signals a firm commitment by both institutions to restore integrity within the police service and ensure that law enforcement officers execute their duties with professionalism and transparency.
