Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Limited (DTB) Chief Operating Officer (COO), James Loden, has stepped down from his role.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 22, by DTB Company Secretary Stephen Kodumbe on behalf of the bank’s Board of Directors. Loden’s resignation takes effect immediately.
“The Board of Directors of Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Limited (‘DTB’) hereby wishes to announce that Mr. James Loden has resigned as Chief Operating Officer of DTB with effect from January 22, 2025,” read the statement.
Kodumbe extended the Board’s gratitude to Loden for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavors.
Loden’s Role at DTB
Loden joined DTB in January 2022, spearheading key transformation initiatives across the bank and its subsidiaries. His contributions included:
- Digital Transformation: Delivering advancements in banking applications, platforms, Fintech engagement strategies, cloud migration, and artificial intelligence.
- Customer Growth: Managing the bank’s growth strategy to achieve 10 million customers across the Group.
- Cybersecurity: Leading the transition to a zero-trust cybersecurity architecture, enhancing governance, resilience, and operational readiness.
- Branch Expansion: Overseeing the branch growth strategy, increasing from 62 branches in 2021 to a target of 100 by mid-2025.
- Operational Efficiency: Focusing on innovation, customer experience, cost containment, and operational improvements.
Career Highlights
Before joining DTB, Loden had an extensive career in banking, holding key leadership roles at Barclays Bank and the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) in Tanzania.
At Barclays Bank:
- Loden joined the COO function for Barclays’ Africa operations in 2010, progressing to lead Security Governance and Control across 14 markets by 2012.
- Between 2013 and 2014, he launched and managed a Project Management Office (PMO) for Barclays Africa’s Retail, Business, and Corporate Banking segments.
- As Head of Operational Risk and Control (2019–2021) and Director of Transition Services, he played a pivotal role in separating Barclays from its African operations by engaging with Absa Corporate and Investment Banking units.
At NBC Tanzania:
- Loden served as COO of NBC, Tanzania’s third-largest bank by market share, which is jointly owned by Barclays, the Tanzanian Government, and the International Finance Corporation.
Loden’s career has been defined by his expertise in operational risk, digital transformation, customer experience, and strategic growth in multinational banking institutions.
DTB expressed confidence in continuing its transformation journey as outlined in its 2025 strategy, despite Loden’s departure.
